I had the privilege of addressing attendees at the celebration marking the Indiana University School of Informatics’ tenth year on the IUPUI and Bloomington campuses. The IUPUI campus is marking the occasion with special events from the School of Informatics for current students, alumni and the IUPUI communities.
It’s been an awesome experience to watch the IU School of Informatics evolve and blossom since its establishment in 2000. As the first school in the nation dedicated to education and research in informatics as well as the first Ph.D program in the field, the school is a great ambassador for the intellectual equity of my home state of Indiana. The school broke new ground in its inception and continues to cut new edges today.
For those unfamiliar with the study of informatics, its intent is to uniquely integrate computing, social science and information systems design to study how we use technology to communicate, work and engage. This knowledge is then applied to develop innovative IT solutions impacting our communities, science, healthcare, entertainment, law and business.
I’m humbled and honored by the opportunity to take part in the 10 year anniversary festivities, and eagerly look forward to the future accomplishments of the school and its students.
